Soriatane is used for the treatment of severe psoriasis and other skin disorders. The medication contains Acitretin – a derivative of vitamin A and moisturizing foam.
Soriatane should be stored at room temperature and should be protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children.
Consult with your physician before using Soriatane and tell them if you have any medical conditions, allergies, or if you are taking any other medications. Be sure to tell them if any of the following apply: you are taking any prescription/non-prescription medicine, dietary supplement or herbal medication, you have (or have had) any liver or kidney problems, bone problems, pancreas problems, heart disease or mental/mood problems, you take a progestin-only form of birth control, you have diabetes, high blood lipid levels (high cholesterol), are very overweight or if anyone in your family has any of these conditions, you receive phototherapy, you donate blood, you wear contacts and/or you drink alcohol. This medication can cause increased skin sensitivity so be sure to protect yourself from sun exposure.
Soriatane may interact with any of the following: some medicines for diabetes, methotrexate, tetracylines, vitamin A, some hormonal contraceptives, alcohol, and/or phenytoin. Soriatane may interact with drugs other than those listed above. Be sure to tell your doctor about any and all medications you are taking and about how drug interactions should be handled. Soriatane can cause birth defects during and after use. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been determined for children. The Elderly may be more sensitive to the side effects of Soriatane.
Patient Family Information : Soriatane should be used as directed by your physician. Follow the directions on the medication label for exact instructions. The capsule(s) should be taken orally with food or just after a meal at the same time every day, or as directed by your doctor. It can take 2 to 3 months before the full benefits of the medication are apparent so continue use even if you do not experience improvement immediately. Your condition may also worsen for a short time before improving, but be sure to let you doctor know of any side effects that are bothersome. If a dose of Soriatane is missed, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at one time to make up for the missed dose. The maximum dose is 75mg per day. Be sure to read the Medication Guide that comes with your Soriatane each time you get it filled. Contact your doctor if you have any questions regarding usage.
Do not take Soriatane if you are allergic to Acitretin, vitamin A or any ingredients in the medication or to any other retinoid, are pregnant, breast-feeding, or planning to become pregnant within 3 years, have severe liver or kidney problems, have certain types of abnormal cholesterol levels or consistant high blood lipid levels, or are taking a tetracycline, methotrexate or vitamin A.
Sever Side Effects : Serious side effects include: severe allergic reactions; bone pain; calf or leg pain or swelling; chest pain; signs of high blood sugar; eye pain; loss of appetite; mental or mood changes; muscle pain, stiffness, or weakness; severe or persistent stomach
Common side effects include: dry or irritated eyes; hair loss; runny nose; weak nails; dry mouth, lips, or nose; thinning, peeling, or scaling of the skin; thinning of the eyebrows or eyelashes;
