Kadian is a medication used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Store at room temperature. Keep away from heat, light, moisture, children and pets.
Before taking Kadian, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding; if you are taking prescription or over the counter medication, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements; if you have any allergies to drugs; if you have asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, or other breathing disorders; if you have underactive thyroid, liver or kidney disease, epilepsy or other seizure disorder, curvature of the spine, low blood pressure, gallbladder disease, mental illness; if you have a history of head injury, brain tumor, or a drug or alcohol addiction; if you have Addison’s disease or other adrenal gland disorders, enlarged prostate, or urination problems.
Patients taking Kadian should avoid alcohol consumption because dangerous side effects or even death may occur. It is important to check your food and medicine labels to ensure there are no contents of alcohol. Do not suddenly stop taking Kadian because you may experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. This medication may be habit forming. It should only be used by the prescribed patient. Do not give this medication to someone else without the advice of your doctor.
Patient Family Information : Read the directions on the prescription label. Do not take larger or more frequent doses than prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication as directed on the label or by your pharmacist, doctor, or other healthcare provider. Take with a full glass of water with or without food. Swallow whole, do not crush, chew or break the tablet because too much medicine will be released at one time. Kadian may also be taken with apple sauce by opening the capsule and sprinkling into a spoonful of applesauce to make swallowing easier. This mixture must be taken right away. Do not chew on the mixture or save it for later use. Throw away the empty capsule.
Do not take Kadian if you are currently taking another similar opiod pain medication and your body is not tolerant to it. Also, do not take Kadian if you are allergic to the product or a narcotic medication such as methadone, darvocet, codeine, oxycontin, Percocet, lortab, vicodin, and more; if you are having an asthma attack or bowel obstruction called paralytic ileus.
Sever Side Effects : Severe: Shallow breathing, slow heartbeat; severe weakness or dizziness, feeling light-headed, fainting; seizure (convulsions); cold, clammy skin; or confusion.
Common: Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite; warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin; dizziness, headache, anxiety; sleep problems (insomnia); memory problems; or constipation.
