DERAMAXX is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory prescription drug (NSAIDs) formulated for pets. DERAMAXX is prescribed to treat osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, chronic pain and post-operative pain in dogs. NSAIDs work to reduce pain by interfering with the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are crucial enzymes which can cause pain and inflammation however they are also responsible for important bodily functions such as kidney function. The pain causing prostaglandins differ from the function monitoring prostaglandins; in fact they are classified in two different groups. Unlike other NSAIDs, DERAMAXX only inhibits the production of the pain causing prostaglandins.
DERAMAXX is currently sold as a chewable beef flavored tablet.
DERAMAXX has not been tested for use in cats; therefore DERAMAXX should not be used to treat cats. Dogs with existing allergies to DERAMAXX or other NSAIDS should not use DERAMAXX. DERAMAXX should not given to dogs with one or more of the following health conditions: bleeding disorders, fluid retention (bloating), pregnant or breastfeeding , heart disease, ulcer, bleeding in the stomach, congestive heart failure, liver disease, and/or kidney disease. DERAMAXX should not be taken with other NSAIDs. Inform your veterinarian if your dog is taking any other medications, supplements and/or herbal remedies. DERAMAXX should not be given to dogs weighing less than 2 kg (4 lb) and/or less than 12 weeks of age.
Possible side effects of DERAMAXX include: Weight gain, skin rashes, bruising, abdominal pains, fatigue, itching, water retention (bloating), and tenderness. If any of these symptoms become bothersome and cause discomfort in your pet talk to your veterinarian. Seek medical attention if any of the following occur: depression, vomiting, heavy breathing, jaundice, an increase in drinking and urination, behavior changes, bloody or black stools, loss of appetite, pale gums, hot spots, and loss of coordination.
DERAMAXX should be administered exactly as instructed by your veterinarian. Always finish the full prescription of a drug as failing to do so can lead to relapse. Do not double dose to make up for any skipped doses. DERAMAXX can be taken with or without food.
