Drug Description :
Indication : Avandia is an oral medicine used to treat diabetes. Avandia helps control blood sugar levels by making the cells in the body become more sensitive to insulin. This medication is for people with type-2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Avandia can be used in combination with other medications however taking Avandia with insulin or nitrates is not advised.
Storage : Store Avandia at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep Avandia away from children and pets.

Precaution : Several women using Avandia have had menstrual periods, even if they had not had a period for a long time due to a condition. It is possible that you can get pregnant if your periods restart. Consult your doctor about using birth control. While taking Avandia, some women may also be more likely than men to have bone fractures in the arm, hand, or foot. Avandia may be harmful to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking Avandia. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding while taking Avandia. It is unknown whether or not Avandia passes into breast milk.
Warnings : Taking certain oral diabetes medications can increase your risk of heart problems- but not treating diabetes may damage the heart and organs. Your doctor may change your dose to allow you to fully benefit from the medication. Avandia is generally taken in the morning and evening. Avandia can be taken with or without food. While taking Avandia, you should have a complete treatment shedule that includes diet, excercise, and weight control. You may also be taking other medicines. Use Avandia regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine. People with diabetes often feel okay. Have your blood tested on a regular basis to ensure that Avandia is helping you. If you become sick or injured, or have a serious infection or surgery, talk to your doctor about whether or not you should take a break from Avandia. Contraindication : If you have type 1 diabetes, do not use Avandia. Do not use Avandia if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. If you have congestive heart failure, heart disease, a history of heart attack or stroke, liver disease, or eye problems due to diabetes, do not use Avandia before telling your doctor. Inform your doctor about any prescription, non-prescription, supplements, cold and flu medicines and herbal medicines that you use before taking Avandia. Some drugs may interact with this medication.
Sever Side Effects : Seek emergency help immediately if you have any signs of allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat.

Other Side Effects : Less serious side effects include: sneezing, runny nose, cough or other signs of a cold, headache, gradual weight gain, mild diarrhea, or back pain.
