Indication : Albafort are iron supplements used to prevent or treat low blood levels of iron also known as anemia. It is normally prescribed to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage : Store at room temperature. Keep away from moisture, sunlight, and children. Do not store in bathroom or freeze liquid forms of Albafort.

General Information :

Precaution : Before taking Albafort, inform your doctor if you have ulcers, colitis, or intestinal disease; currently taking Tetracyclines by mouth, Acetohydroxamic, fluroquinolones, antacids, etidronate, or dimercaprol; if you are taking any other prescription or over the counter medication; iron overload conditions such as hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, or hemoglobinopathies; a history of alcohol abuse; blood transfusion with high red blood cell iron content; colitis or other intestinal problems; kidney infection or liver disease; stomach ulcer; Porphyria cutaneos tarda; asthma or allergies; heart disease; arthritis (rheumatoid); or have other anemias.

Warnings : When taking Albafort, avoid eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt, spinach, whole-grain breads, cereals, and bran because it decreases iron absorption. Drink coffee and tea with meals or 1 hour after a meal because it also decreases iron absorption. Also, avoid taking antacids or tetracycline with Albafort because it will cause false test results in tests that check for blood in stools.

Patient Family Information  : Albafort injectables can only be administered by or under the supervision of your doctor or health care professional.

Contraindication : Do not take Albafort if you are under 6 years of age accidental overdose of iron can lead to fatal poisoning.

Sever Side Effects : Severe: Backache , groin, side, or muscle pain; chest pain; chills; dizziness; fainting; fast heartbeat; fever with increased sweating; flushing; headache; metallic taste; nausea or vomiting; numbness, pain, or tingling of hands or feet; pain or redness at injection site; redness of skin; skin rash or hives; swelling of mouth or throat; troubled breathing.

Common Side Effects : Common: Constipation; leg cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, darkened urine, stained teeth, heartburn.

Other Side Effects : Other: Early symptoms of overdose: Diarrhea that may contain blood; severe vomiting that may contain blood; nausea, fever, or stomach pain or sharp cramping. Late symptoms of overdose: Convulsions or seizures; drowsiness, clammy pale skin; rapid and shallow breathing; bluish-colored lips, fingernails, and palms of hands; unusual weakness or tiredness; weak and fast heartbeat.
